The Great Salt Lake – Antelope Island Wildlife Tour
Wildlife!? Wilderness!? Hiking?! This tour has it all with only an hour drive from downtown Salt Lake City our 4.5 hour tour will take you to Antelope Island State Park nestled in The Great Salt Lake. We will spot for Wild Bison, Antelope, Coyote some of the 10 million migratory birds that pass through the Great Salt Lake each year and more. Our knowledgeable guides will tell you some amazing facts about one of the worlds largest Salt Lakes and it’s fascinating ecosystem. Utah is also known for it’s vast wilderness landscapes with epic and quiet serenity. And this is the closest you can experience that from downtown. To end the tour we do a short hike (1 mile round trip) to overlook the lake. It’s really an epic and beautiful experience that you wont forget.

Many people come to Utah to experience the vast deserts, serene beauty and epic landscapes. But few know that you can experience this so close to downtown Salt Lake City. Combine your trip to the Great Salt Lake with what I consider the only way to visit it by experiencing Antelope Island. This little known island is teaming with wildlife, and you can’t get the quiet of wilderness by simply visiting it near I-80. We will spot for the wild herd of 600 American Bison roaming the island. Amongst the Bison we’ll watch for coyote, bobcat, antelope, porcupine, big-horn sheep, mule deer and if the season is right up to 200,000 migratory birds. You can truly experience Nature in its finest form on this beautiful island. After wildlife spotting, we’ll hike to Buffalo Point on the Island to watch the sunset and take in the breathtaking views. The Hike is .9 miles round trip. It has a couple steep parts on dirt, but it’s very well traveled. I would designate this as an easy to moderate hike, that is less than a mile.

Garth took us on a leisurely tour of Antelope Island, stopping to let us view owls and bison – so many bison and a couple were rather close! – and providing great tidbits and stories. He also answered all our questions, and had a fabulous indigenous peoples soundtrack playing. Hike to the top of the island to watch the sunset was gorgeous. (He also brought bug spray, which we didn’t think we needed but we were wrong.) Wonderful evening. Totally recommend.
